About the farm:
Oak Valley is located in the cool-climate region of Elgin. The estate was founded in 1898 by Sir Antonie Viljoen, a medical doctor who graduated in Scotland and became a Senator in the Cape Parliament.
Oak Valley covers 1784 hectares and has 5 operating divisions which include: fruits (apples and pears), flowers (fresh cut flowers), meat (beef), wines and hospitality (a gorgeous restaurant, mountain bike trails and cottages).
About the wine:
The wine’s name is derived from a fresh water spring discovered by Sir Antonie after he purchased the farm. The water was so good, he had it piped over many miles to his home and proclaimed it the “fountain of youth”.
This Sauvignon Blanc has a pale yellow-greenish colour and it is quite aromatic. Aromas of gooseberries, passion fruit, green pepper, peach and litchi are evident.
It’s a light bodied, off-dry wine and has the cool region and close proximity to the ocean to thank for its crisp and zesty acidity. This youthful wine has a lingering finish and smooth mount feel.
This is definitely one of my favourite Sauvignon Blancs and a perfect companion for the coming summer days! I would highly recommend stacking up on this delightful wine, who knows - it might not make us look any younger, but we could feel full of life again!
