About the farm:

Strandveld is located in the cool-climate region of Elim. It is also the most southerly vineyard in Africa; a mere 11km from the Atlantic Ocean. These wines are generous in flavours due to the slow ripening grapes in this region.

The farm has two ranges: First Sighting and Strandveld - the premium range. In 2001, a group of friends (all enthusiastic wine lovers) embarked on a wine-making journey inspired by the 15th century mariner’s maps and Portuguese explorers, such as Bartholomeu Dias who first sighted the most southern tip of Africa.

About the wine:

The wine is a medium garnet coloured wine, being brighter in colour closer to the rim. It is made from 90% Syrah, 7,5% Grenache and 2,5% Viognier. The wine was aged in French oak for 20 months.

It is a full-bodied wine with powerful aromas of red fruit, spices and pepper. It has firm, but well integrated tannins and is packed with flavours such as black berry fruit. It is a complex wine that will grab your attention from the first whiff, right up to the long, lingering finish.

Being high in alcohol (14,5%), this wine is best enjoyed on a crisp winter’s night with a hearty meal. It would go well with meat dishes like roast beef, duck or venison.

This multiple award-winning wine is a serious wine, to be shared with someone who can appreciate the elegant flavours and complexity of this wine. The Strandveld Syrah is definitely one to be added to your collection.
