About the collection:
Louis57 is the wine range of Louis Oosthuizen, a professional South African Golf player. Unlike some of the other South African golf players, he does not own his own wine estate. His wines are made at the Boschkloof Boutique family estate situated in Stellenbosch, by the farm’s winemaker, Reenen Borman. Louis hand selects the wines in his range.
The Louis57 wine range is named after his achievement on the Mossel Bay Golf Course when he scored the lowest score ever recorded on the course- 57 in the year 2000. His actual scorecard is also printed on the back label of the wine!
About the wine:
It is a well-balanced red blend consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Shiraz (26%) and Merlot (22%). It’s youthfulness is evident in its brighter ruby colour.
On the nose, there are aromas of mixed berries, plum and spiced oak. These elements are also present in the flavours. It’s a dry wine with smooth tannins and a long finish.
The Fifty Seven Red Blend is an easy-drinking wine to be enjoyed in the company of others, or by yourself. I personally do not think his collection receives the publicity it deserves, but by watching people’s responses to his wines at the few festivals I have attended, it is only a matter of time!
