Hermanuspietersfontein Posmeester 2015 - the story behind every sip...

About the farm:

Hermanuspietersfontein (“HPF”) is a farm situated in Sondagskloof, part of the Walker Bay Region, with their tasting room situated in the popular Hermanus.

The wine farm is named after Hermanus Pieters, a farm teacher who schooled the Overberg farmers’ children in Dutch (forerunner of Afrikaans) during the 1800’s. The farmers paid him in sheep (and hence the sheep “mascot” connotation to HPF). In 1855, the village of Hermanus was found and named in his honour. In memory of Hermanus Pieters, HPF is one of the few South African wine farms committed to having their wine names and labels in Afrikaans.

I have always found the staff to be fun and full of energy, making the tasting room a must visit!

About the wine:

Posmeester (translated to postmaster), is a Merlot (85%) led blend with Malbec (10%), Mourvèdre (2%), Cabernet Franc (2%) and Petit Verdot (1%).

For me, it’s medium-ruby in colour (might have a hint of purple) with an inviting aroma of berries and red fruit. Because it was aged in French oak for 6 months, it also has a vanilla-nutty flavour. It is an elegant, yet easy drinking wine.

It is a dry wine, with medium acidity and soft tannins. It leaves a satisfying aftertaste and has a lengthy finish.

Posmeester is a welcome guest to any table or gathering. There are no hard feelings if you prefer it without food (even though it goes along great with food). Posmeester is usually a favourite amongst the ladies; especially if you haven’t developed a “red-wine palate” yet.

Posmeester is an uncomplicated, everyday drinking wine, and that’s why we love it! … Simply DiVine…
