About the farm:
Gabriëlskloof (named after the farm’s original owner in 1860 – Gabriël le Roux) is a family owned and managed wine farm just outside Botrivier. Botrivier has a Mediterranean climate with moderate to warm temperatures. The farm and vineyards were established in 2000, with the first vintage made in the cellar in 2009. Their wines are elegant and honest; always leaving a lasting impression.

Gabriëlskloof also produces award-winning olive oil – ranking amongst the top 5 olive oils in South Africa in 2013.

This is also one of our favourite wine farms; we never need a reason to visit other than “just because”. The atmosphere is always lively, yet relaxed. The tasting room and staff have a familiarity about them that just makes you want to stay a bit longer every time. The food at the estate’s restaurant is also mouth-watering – and generous in portions!

About the wine:
This is a Bordeaux-style blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon (49%). The rest is made up of Cabernet Franc (30%), Petit Verdot (14%) and Malbec (7%). The fruits were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation and ageing took place in barrel and in tank.
For me, it has an inviting dark ruby colour with a brighter red rim. I perceive it to be an aromatic wine, with a strong tobacco leaf aroma and some black fruits.
I would classify it as a dry, full-bodied red wine with velvety tannins and bright acidity. It is an easy-drinking wine, and full of flavour, with a hint of vanilla towards the end. It has an everlasting finish - concluding the whole tasting experience.
The Blend is a wine for everyone, you either find it enjoyable or lovable, but either way, drinkable! The wine leaves me with a “familiar” feeling; companionable. I do not perceive this wine to be heavy or overwhelming, it is as good without food as it is with food. I hope you will soon spoil yourself to a bottle of this DiVine blend!
