Too much to know; too little time… The perfect book to boost your wine knowledge

Visual.  Fun.  Easy to follow.   These are just some of the words I would use to describe the first book I purchased on my way to becoming a wine guru.  Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack; authors of Wine Folly really know how to introduce wine to your average Joe.

The book covers a wide variety of topics; including wine fundamentals, styles of wine and wine regions.  I particularly enjoyed the sections on “Basic Wine Characteristics” and “Tasting Wine”.  I poured myself and my husband a glass of wine and followed through each of the steps as if it were a recipe, explaining what we should look out for and what certain sensations implied about the style and characteristic of the specific wine we were drinking.

There is also a whole chapter on “Styles of Wine” whereby different wines are characterized according to its profile, flavours etc., making it easy for the novice wine enthusiast to identify and describe some of the most popular wine styles.

In addition to the basics of wine, there is also a dedicated section on the “Wine Regions of the World”.  This makes for an interesting read for the wine drinker planning their next travel.

I would recommend this book to everyday wine drinkers or anyone with a keen interest in the subject.  It is a concise guide covering the most important fundamentals in wine.  Enjoy it by yourself or with a fellow wine enthusiast, as

long as it is accompanying a glass of your favourite wine!
